Clipper City Beer and Bacon Festival

by Beth on September 20, 2009

On Saturday, we were lucky enough to have tickets to the Clipper City Beer and Bacon Festival. When I first got the email about Beer and Bacon and sent it around to see if anyone would be interested in going, the response was overwhelming–”BEER and BACON?! We’ve got to do that!”

Who knew that behind this unassuming sign in an industrial park off Hollins Ferry road a whole wonderland of beer and bacon awaited. We had never been to the Clipper City before–which is really a shame since it’s so close and Noel has been a fan for years, so you think we would have made time to do their brewery tour–so I wasn’t really sure what to expect. The set up was pretty neat though, since the Festival was actually held in Clipper City’s brewing facility, right there amongst the equipment.

There was beer and bacon (well duh). But I was impressed at both how much was available and the variety, of both the beer and the bacon. All of the Clipper City beers were there–and they have A LOT of different beers–including my favorite, Oxford Organic Raspberry, and a whole bunch of funky firkins. And with unlimited pouring there was plenty to go around.

There were also a whole bunch of stands from different restaurants in and around town, serving bacon or dishes featuring bacon all fixed different ways. So everything from different cuts of bacon to bacon cheeseburgers to bacon popcorn and even bacon candy was on display and available for our enjoyment. I don’t think I’ve ever eaten so much bacon in one sitting, but it was all really, really good.

We even had a local celebrity sighting–Hugh Sisson, owner of Clipper City in a bacon suit. At least we think it was Hugh. What do you think?

I would love a wine and bacon festival! Sounds like something right up Boordy’s alley…

I think Boordy would be the perfect venue for that.
