Be prepared to drop everything and RUN (yes I said RUN) to your local farmer’s market or grocery store. Why are you running? Because peach season is almost over and you don’t want to wait a whole 10 months to make this recipe! I take full responsibility for not sharing this earlier–i have known about it since August when it showed up in my blog feed–but really I wasn’t trying to hide anything, I just didn’t know how wonderful this was myself until just last Sunday!
So what is it that you’re running for? Peaches in White Wine, inspired by Orangette. Think of peach cocktail, with just a hint of white wine. A drink so smooth it’s like juice–you actually have to keep yourself from drinking it too fast! Yes, it’s really that good. Like the last bit of summer in a glass, you’ll want to be drinking this as you send off this glorious season.
Peaches in White Wine
Like with red wine sangria, something magic happens while this combination is resting in the fridge. Somehow the alcohol taste of the wine is absorbed by the fruit, leaving the wine sweet and fruity and the peaches potent! I found that this recipe works best with dry, crisp white wine like savingon blanc.
- 1 bottle dry white wine, like savingon blanc (we used Crane Lake, which is cheap and excellent for this
- 4 firm but ripe peaches (we used white peaches
- 2 tablespoons sugar
Wash peaches and rub dry. Thinly slice peaches and drop them into the bottom of a container (preferably with a lid) large enough to hold at least a bottle of wine (we use a gallon and a half plastic jug). Pour wine over peaches, then add sugar. Using a wooden spoon stir mixture a few times to make sure the sugar isn’t stuck in one place.
Place covered container in the fridge for at least 4 hours, or up to several days. Stir or shake mixture gently before pouring liquid into a wine glass. Serve peaches in a bowl, or you can add a few to the wine glass for garnish.
And did I mention how much I think you’ll love this? Yeah, you probably want to make a double batch. I know we wish we had!

Thanks for this tip! I’ve got a few end-of-season peaches on my counter that are too mealy to eat, and a nice box of white wine chilling in the fridge right now. This seems like the perfect solution!
