Wordless Wednesday Valencia edition, compliments of my good friend (and usual suspect) Carlos del Valle!

Carlos just returned from his annual trip to Spain, where he was lucky enough to be for the World Cup Final! And he took these food pictures just for us–okay, maybe not just for us, but we get to enjoy them! Thanks, Carlos!

These were all from the Mercado Central in Valencia, open Monday through Saturday 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. As far as permanent markets, this one is one of my favorites – huge, clean, busy, and full of every type of seafood, meat, fruit, nut, and vegetable you could imagine. My mom grew up 400 yards from the place, so she used to go here as a child to pick up food items for the week. Lots of family tradition and memories here, as well as a great time. BTW, the middle picture is the Pata Negra Serrano Ham – really good stuff.

Those photos make me want to grab my suitcase (and passport) and head to the airport.

Those all look really good, the fruits, meat and seafood.
I’m glad that we have Carlos’ descriptions as well – I am curious about the ham, too.

I am not kidding when I say that the figs in Spain were insanely good and probably the best on the planet. I think we had some good ones in Morocco too, but in Spain, some were larger than pears. Going to the fruit markets in other countries may have been the highlight of my summer, and pastries in Paris too. Have a good day.
