Monhegan Island Part 1: The Settlement.
As a bit of background, Monhegan Island is a small island–less than 1 square mile–10 miles off the coast of Maine. It’s only accessible via a mail boat that runs a few times a day. After a serious bout of seasickness on the high and rolling seas, we enjoyed a day on the island.
Some of our adventures in the inhabited parts of the island…

lovely…
I have always wanted to go there. next time I am in Maine I will have to!
catie–we sort of stumbled on Monhegan by accident. the mail boat leaves from the town we were staying in (we were in town for a wedding) and we decided to go. I was seriously seasick on the way out there but it didn’t ruin my day…and I want to go back!
OMG ~ Almost brought tears to my eyes to see these pics!! Both of our kids were born in Bath, Maine!! Hubby was in the Navy then and we lived in Brunswick! It is sooooo beautiful there!! For years we had a Lobster Trap with a glass top for a coffee table!
Lovely series. When we’re in Maine this year, I’ll have to see we can get there.
Ollie-We drove through Bath and Brunswick on our way to Port Clyde. Lovely little towns.
Beth F-we took the ferry from Port Clyde to Monhegan, but there are also ferries from New Harbor and Boothbay Harbor.
Gorgeous shots!! I’ve never been to Maine but it looks beautiful!
happy ww : )
Awesome pictures!!! I want to be in that hammock right now sipping some pink lemonade and then taking a nap!!
I always read about places like that, tiny little islands that are only accessible by ferries and such, but I’ve never been to one. Thanks for sharing these pictures! I love the lighthouse.
Happy WW!
Cheers :-)
