A Very Festive 4th from the BBC

by Beth on July 3, 2011

We’re spending our Fourth of July this year at the beach–at the Broadkill Beach Club. It’s been a super festive weekend so far, and it’s not even the 4th yet! We’ve had two days of fireworks and fun, with lots of sun, sand, bugspray, food and friends!

But for your viewing pleasure this holiday, I wanted to share with you some good old fashioned fun that kicked off the weekend here on Saturday–the Annual Broadkill Beach Fourth of July Parade!

This was our first year participating, so we weren’t sure what to expect. It was a lot bigger than we were expecting, so we’ve already started planning for next year! We need to bring home the best float trophy to Alabama Avenue!

The parade started off with a bit of music from a bagpiper. Very classy!

Then there was a whole legion of bikes!

After the bikes, we had floats! I was quite impressed, because these were some serious floats. Take the above SS Broadkill for example.

A tribute to our troops.

Here’s the BBC Float!

Yep, those are puppets. The puppet team were champs to walk for 3 miles in the sun! And Eileen led the way with her bike!

I loved this Ben Franklin kid. I saw him setting up his float on my run Saturday morning, and he had clearly put a lot of time and effort into the float. Too cute.

We had quite a few classic cars.

I think these guys were my favorites–”It’s a Broadkill Thing” with things you find in the bay. There was a landshark, those umbrellas are jellyfish, and someone was wearing a coors light can costume. Classic.

And the parade just kept coming. We had a solid 15 minutes of viewing pleasure, and we even got some candy out of the deal.

Any ideas for our parade float theme for next year?
