This weekend we kicked off another summer season in high season at the Broadkill Beach Club. I can’t believe it, but this marks the start of our third season at the beach!
For the second year in a row, I ran the Masser 5 Miler on Memorial Day Sunday. But this year, I had some company! Noel and Carlos joined me for the race, which made it even more fun.
Masser is always a hot race, and I think it feels even hotter because it’s early in the season so I’m not acclimated to the heat yet. I had a good race–I finished in 44.50–almost 2 minutes faster than last year for a 5 mile PR. I feel like having run this course before was a big advantage for me, because I knew where I was going and how to pace myself appropriately.
I also finished third in my age group, which hopefully means I can be in the running for an age group award for the whole Championship series. I finished 4th in my age group last year, and I would really like a top three this year!
The rest of the weekend was more laid back. There was food, friends, and family. The Usual Suspects joined us at the beach for the weekend, which just adds to the fun component. Some of my favorite shots from the weekend.

And I finally got a chance to get back into the kitchen! There were pancakes and there were pies. There’s a bigger story about the pies, but I’ll get to that in my next post!
